Some people remember through taste; others avoid eating something when they don't want to remember or just can't. Food is the way the memory mechanism works. This is the case with Odysseus in the play. After all, half the adventures of his companions are caused by their hunger or gluttony, as in the land of the Lotus Eaters, in the land of the sacred calves of the Sun, and on the island of the Cyclops.
